[ HTML Tips for Beginners ]
Text:
- Text should always be visible and in a reasonable font size, type and color.
- Text and background colors should never clash, or be hard on the eyes in general. Colors to stay away from include (But aren't limited to) bright reds and blues, anything neon, yellows and oranges, etc..
Graphics:
- Graphics can enhance your site when used in moderation.
- Limit the size of graphics so that slower connections do not have to wait as long.
- Make use of the ALT command. Visitors can then see if they would like to view the picture or not. Make sure that the label has something to do with the picture as well.
After you finish with the code:
- Make sure that all of your graphics work. It is annoying to any visitor to wait for the pictures to load and then only have a broken link.
- Make sure that all links are running properly. This concept will help people enjoy your page, as well as to find other pages that they enjoy.
- Spelling! Please, please, please, check your spelling. Your page will look more professional if everything is spelled and capitalized correctly.
- Check all fonts and make sure that you can see all of them properly on the background.
- Fix any error messages that your browser gives you. If you get errors, then visitors will as well.
- List previous updates to make sure visitors know what's new and what's not.
- Update often. I'm not saying to update everyday, but just make sure that you do not go too long without adding anything.
